Thanks Larry!
It’s funny, I never think much during the day about what I might like to write about at the end of the day. Most days, I’m not struck by inspiration until later in the evening. Today though, I have my friend Larry to thank. He gave me an African Proverb to share and it’s pretty appropriate for most of us.
Every morning in Africa a Gazelle wakes up. It knows that it must run faster that the fastest Lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a Lion wakes up it knows it must outrun the slowest Gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a Lion or a Gazelle, when the sun comes up you better start running.
Doesn’t it feel like that’s all we do anymore? I started running at 7am and didn’t stop for way too long! But it was one of those days where I took a couple of steps forward and several more back. The morning was actually great, after Trav managed to find his conference notebook and we could get that going. Then the race to the gondola commenced. Finally managed to get on a bucket around 9:30.
Wouldn’t you know it though, the second I was ready to kick off for the first run, my ipod died. How does it always know when I’m not carrying a spare? I swear, the only time the tiny little shuffle dies is when I’ve left the back up ipod in the filing cabinet!! If Trav had not been with me, I just might have skied down and gone back to the office! Stupid, I know but I’m an ipod junkie, I have a hard time with ryhthm without my tunes. But I didn’t leave and we skied some of the best cordoroy of the year. What can I say, I’m a total groomer queen. Trav’s doing great, he can actually keep up with me! That makes two people who can. If you can’t ski steep at least ski fast.
Once we got off the hill though the day kind of fell apart. It only took one thing to really take the shine off the day. I’d convinced myself that I was destined to have an interview for a part time job. No such luck. I’m pretty amazed, stunned, heart broken and depressed. After awhile it makes you wonder if you’ll ever get a break. I’m usually pretty hopeful and things usually have a way of working out. It doesn’t feel that way anymore.
And then I got word that the movie that they are going to be shooting here in April called Cougar Hunting isn’t going to be using locals after all. I was surprised at how many people I know went over and auditioned. Why not though, it would be a hoot to be in the next Aspen cult film. Rumor has it that not one of the “cougars” they hired to star in the film are over 35 and they are all from CA! So should any of you be foolish enough to watch this film…the cougars are gorgeous because they are 15 years shy of actually being cougars. Not that any of us are bitter or anything. I guess we all just were hoping for a distraction from our problems. Would have been a nice change of pace.
From there the day was a slew of technical glitches and issues that tend happen all at once just to see how many we can tolerate before we lose it. I didn’t lose it completely but just barely. Tomorrow will be better, do you think if I just keep chanting that I can make it happen? I hope so.
This is one of my favorites:
Hopefully I’ll be able to divert my course to avoid a collision. Here’s to a better tomorrow.

This Day I am the Lion
Most days I feel like the gazelle! Luckily a very, very fast gazelle.
