Dog day of summer
Yesterday was the first time since moving to Colorado in 06 that the thermometer in the car actually hit 100 degrees! Of course we were down valley doing back to school shopping at the time. As soon as we got back up valley to Aspen it dropped down to 96! I didn’t get a chance to ride my bike all week, my mornings were too early and it was just too chilly. So, I had to get in a nice ride despite the temperature. It was astounding how quickly the air just sucked the moisture out of you. I went through three water bottles and never had to pee. It really wasn’t too uncomfortable, going down valley there was the usual headwind so your sweat dries before your clothes even have a chance to get damp. I felt bad for the Komen Ride for the Cure participants. They had to have been freezing in the morning when they started and then melting by the afternoon. 100 miles is a long way to ride in a day, must have been brutal with all that heat.
Today I think I’ll get moving as quickly as possible to get into town and get the last month reconciled! Finally have the temporary job nearly all tied up. It will give me a little more time with Travis, though it does mean a drop in income. Definitely need to bike to town. Need to get in as many miles as possible now, summer is winding up awfully quickly. It’s too dark now by 8:00 to ride home safely on the highway. So biking to work on long days isn’t possible.
The new Skiing magazine hit the mail box this week, I’ve already drooled over all the new skis and boots that I can’t afford to buy. The new ski pass prices (& new passes) were announced a couple of days ago too. I’m happy that the premiere pass dropped in price by $200 because that’s what I buy. But that was the only good news. There was a whole lot more here but I deleted it. It occurred to me that it was like biting the hand that feeds me. If I have hope of being an Ambassador this winter and having the price of my pass refunded…I need to play nice in the sand box. I will say this…Skico…are you listening? It’s not too late to reinstate the Highlands pass!
For me, the full pass makes the most amount of sense, last year the pass cost $1300 and if you break down the price by the number of days that I skied, it cost me $14.44 per day. This year, assuming that my new job allows me out for lunch turns (and I don’t get injured again), then I should be able to knock that down to $10.99 per day. I know that I’m broke, but I have the money tucked away in savings for this expenditure. I give up going to the movies, theatre, music, eating out, concerts, ballet, getting my hair cut, gym membership, driving most of the summer just to save the money for a ski pass. I can’t even imagine not having a pass that allowed me to ski every day. It’s the one and only thing I do for myself, without it, I’d be a complete basket case! Ah, but ski season won’t start for another 3 months and I have bigger fish to fry at the moment.
A quick run down…I did get a new job, you might have caught that mention earlier. It’s full time but it’s base plus commission so any of you reading this that are locals, you’d better be calling me at the Aspen Daily News for all of your classified ads needs!! Help a gal out. Besides that the Times is a corporate paper, unlike the News that is locally owned. Buy local! The comedy show did not do as well as we had hoped…it’s really tough to get people up to Highlands. But we had fun and no one lost their shirts. We’ll be starting that up hopefully in two locations beginning Thanksgiving weekend. School starts this week. And maybe, just maybe, this week I will get through to the mortgage company and make some headway on my modification…ha! That’s probably a pipe dream! And now it’s late and I have to get to work! Have a great day.
