1 day to go
I do not know what possessed me to say that I would try my hand at stand up comedy! Somehow in less than 48 hours, I’m going to get up on the stage at Steve’s Guitars and take the mic and try to make a roomful of mostly strangers laugh. I spent years in the wings watching comedians like Ellen Degeneres, Rita Rudner, Paula Poundstone, Howie Mandel, Bill Cosby, Bob Newman…(I’d forgotten just how many comedians we’d booked during my time at SCA) anyway, I’d sit in the wings and watch them work their magic on the audience and I always thought that I could do the same thing. At least until today. Today, the nerves are beginning to set in. I’m pretty sure that I can remember my set, it’s only 5 minutes but can I remember it in front of people? Can I really make them laugh? If I can’t, it could turn into the longest 5 minutes of my rather unfortunate life.
I say unfortunate because it appears that I will never be paid my back pay by one employer and it appears that she is also leaving me to pay off the credit card that I so foolishly agreed to charge a couple of the company’s bills on. One of the charges was HER ski pass…which she later returned for the cash!!!! If you learn one thing from this blog, let it be this….no matter how close you think you are with your employer…NEVER, EVER, EVER agree to let them charge anything to your personal credit cards!! Even if you believe to the very tips of your toes that they are honorable and will pay you back…DON’T do it!
My other boss, for whom I worked on commission is also avoiding paying me my commissions and for delivering his guidebooks all over town. He says because I left him so abruptly that it’s taking him awhile to get the money together and that I should give him more time! It’s been a month. And he was thrilled when I quit since his other salesperson needed more territory. He’s already been paid by the clients that I sold ads to, so what’s the problem? You just can’t trust anyone these days!
And to top off the list of unfortunate things that have happened lately. The loan modification program…is nothing but a SCAM! The banks were thrilled to be able to stay in business by taking bailout money, but when it came time for them to step up and help out those who were hurt most by the fallout that their virtually criminal activity…they used the government guidelines against us. According to the bank, the balloon payment at the end of my loan (in 40 years!) was too large so they disqualified me…and now they won’t do anything to help me!! NOT ONE DAMN THING. But of course no one from the bank called to tell me this when they figuired out how to disqualify me. They let me go on believeing for weeks that the paperwork was on it’s way and that I was going to be able to keep making my payments! I only discovered it when I finally called to ask where the heck the paperwork was!!!! Some customer service.
Sorry to vent but it does feel much better to get it all out of my system so I don’t go on stage angry, cause that would never work out. Oh shoot, now it’s much later than I thought and I need to catch the bus!!
In case you were wondering about the upcoming ski season in Aspen…it’s going to be amazing! At least, thank god, I have that to look forward to! My new office is composed of mostly total ski junkies like me so it’s going to be practically expected that we ski every day. I’ll be sure to get in my 100 days this season. Granted on the weekends I have to give up one day to earn my free pass…but skiing with the guests could be fun. I’ll have to learn how to ski without my ipod and SLOWLY but at least it’s skiing. It’s already below freezing this morning, the heat is coming on already in the house. We’ve had our first two snowfalls…didn’t amount to much in town but there’s still some snow to be seen on the peaks.
If you have not made your plans to come out here to ski this winter…make them now!! The deals that you can get on hotels are as good as they are ever going to get. You could wait for a better deal but I think you’ll discover that by waiting, you’ll get left out…Lift One is already sold out for Gay Ski week and the others are starting to fill up now. The El Nino weather pattern is setting us up for an Epic ski season so the snow should be excellent whenever you come to visit!!
